How to Choose a Facial at Glow Skin Lab

By Paulina Saenz, Esthetician at Glow Skin Lab

Most people book a facial by picking whichever one sounds nicest. That works out fine sometimes. But if you have been frustrated with your skin for a while, the choice actually matters, and picking the right one is the difference between a nice hour and a real result.

Here is how I help clients decide.

First, the thing most people get wrong

Dullness, rough texture, visible pores, and fine lines look like four separate problems. They are mostly one problem wearing four outfits.

Your skin sheds dead cells on a cycle. That cycle slows down with age, with sun exposure, and with the dry air that shows up here every fall. When shedding slows, dead cells stay on the surface and pile up. That buildup scatters light instead of reflecting it, which reads as dull. It sits inside the pore opening and stretches it, which makes pores look bigger. It holds onto dryness, which makes fine lines look deeper.

Clear the buildup and all of it improves at the same time. That is what a professional facial is actually for.

Where ours differ is how far down they work, how much time they take, and how much your skin has to tolerate.

The short version

If you want to skip ahead, here is where most people land.

Thirty minutes is all you have, or this is your first facial, or you just want to stay on top of things. Start with the Glow Refresh and Reset Facial.

You get congestion and want extractions. The Classic Glow Facial.

You have an event and want your makeup to sit perfectly. The Glow Dermaplane Facial.

You want the full experience and you want to be taken care of. The Glow Signature Experience.

Your skin is sensitive, inflamed, or recovering from something. The Restore and Renew Facial.

You are working on fine lines, scarring, or real texture change. The Collagen Glow Facial with SkinPen.

It is your back, not your face. The Glow Back Facial.

If none of that is obviously you, keep reading, or just call us and we will sort it out in five minutes.

This month: our seasonal facials

These two are on the menu for October only. If you had the Pumpkin Peel or the Coffee and Cream Radiance Facial last month, these are those same two treatments wearing their fall names.

The Harvest Glow Peel Facial

Our pumpkin enzyme peel, and pumpkin is not a seasonal gimmick here. The enzymes release the dead cell buildup sitting at the surface. Acids work a little deeper and loosen what is packed into the pore lining, which is the step that makes pores read smaller. And the vitamin A precursors naturally in pumpkin support surface renewal in a gentler professional form.

Best for: visible pores, rough texture, congestion that does not respond to what you use at home, and skin that already tolerates actives like retinol or acids.

Expect: a warm tingle during treatment and possibly light flaking for a day or two afterward. Give it a few days before anything important rather than booking it the morning of.

The Autumn Latte Facial

A coffee enzyme and a cream mask. The enzyme loosens the bonds holding dead cells in place so they release rather than being scrubbed off, which matters if your skin runs reactive. The coffee brings caffeine and antioxidants. And the cream mask is the part people underestimate, because exfoliating without replenishing afterward leaves skin worse off. It puts hydration back into a surface that can finally absorb it.

Best for: dry or tight skin, dullness, looking tired in photos on days you feel fine, foundation that sits on top instead of melting in, and sensitive skin that has not done well with harsher treatments.

Expect: no downtime. Most people leave looking brighter and feeling smoother the same day.

Our core menu

Refresh and Reset Wednesday

The first Wednesday of every month, our Glow Refresh and Reset Facial drops to $75 instead of $100.

A facial is not a once a year thing. It works best on a rhythm, and the single biggest reason people fall off that rhythm is cost. So one day a month we take that reason off the table. Put the first Wednesday in your calendar and stop thinking about it.

Anything happening tomorrow. Give a peel or microneedling at least five to seven days before a wedding, a photo shoot, or an event. Dermaplaning is the one that suits the day before.

If you are not sure which category you fall into, call us. We would rather talk it through than have you guess.

When a facial is not the right call

Being honest about this matters more to me than booking you for something.

Deep set wrinkles. There is a real difference between a fine line and a wrinkle. Fine lines sit at the surface and respond well to exfoliation and hydration. Deeper lines are structural, tied to collagen loss and years of repeated muscle movement, and a facial will not reach them. If those are your main concern, the right next step is a consultation with Lindsay or Mandy so you get an honest plan instead of a treatment that was never going to work on them.

Active breakouts or a rosacea flare. Inflamed skin is usually not the time for exfoliation. Let us look at it first. The Restore and Renew Facial often suits better than anything stronger.

Recent prescription retinoid use, or any history of isotretinoin. Tell us before you book. It changes what is appropriate and how we would adjust.

A spot that is new, changing, or growing. That belongs with a dermatologist rather than with us, and we will tell you so directly.

How often

For most people, every four to six weeks keeps the cycle from falling behind again. That timing is not arbitrary. It roughly tracks how long surface renewal takes, so you are treating it on rhythm instead of catching up.

One facial feels good. A rhythm is what changes how your skin behaves.

Before and after your appointment

The week before: stop retinol and exfoliating acids three to five days ahead. Do not wax or get laser work on the same area within a week. Come with clean skin if you can, though it is fine if you cannot.

The days after: sunscreen is not optional, it is the entire point of protecting the work. Skip retinol and acids for three to five days. If you flake, do not pick at it, just keep it moisturized and let it finish. Skip hot yoga, saunas, and swimming pools for forty eight hours.

Everyone's skin responds differently. Your esthetician will adjust strength to what your skin can handle that day and will tell you honestly what is realistic for you.
